About the special issue

Despite potential medical benefits, there are serious concerns about the psychosocial sequelae of an individual learning that he or she carries an elevated risk for disease. However, this apprehension about genetic testing has rested almost entirely on anecdotal reports and speculation. In the past few years, there has been a surge of interest in subjecting these claims to controlled investigations.

This special issue of is devoted to research that seeks to provide an empirical foundation for the understanding of the psychosocial aspects of genetic testing for disease predisposition.
