Council adopted guidelines on dementia, disabilities and working with lesbian, gay and bisexual clients

Council adopted the Guidelines for Assessment of and Intervention with Persons with Disabilities, which was developed by the APA Task Force on Guidelines for Assessment and Treatment of Persons with Disabilities.

Council adopted the Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients. These guidelines replace Guidelines for Psychotherapy with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients that were adopted in 2000. The new guidelines have updated literature reviews and resource lists, as well as new guidelines on the following topics:

  • Religion and spirituality,

  • The differentiation of gender identity from sexual orientation,

  • Socioeconomic and workplace issues,

  • HIV/AIDS, and

  • The use and dissemination of research on lesbian, gay and bisexual issues.

Council adopted the Guidelines for the Evaluation of Dementia and Age-related Cognitive Change. Developed by the Task Force to Update the 1998 Guidelines for the Evaluation of Dementia and Age-Related Cognitive Decline, the Guidelines reflect the dramatic evolution in psychological science and practice over the past decade.
