APA is offering a variety of continuing education (CE) workshops at its Annual Convention in San Francisco, Aug. 14?18. The workshops will explore such issues as hastened death, child abuse, alternative medicine, attention deficit disorder and chronic fatigue syndrome. All offer CE credit. Highlights include: ? 'Munchausen by proxy syndrome: identification, evaluation and treatment,' Aug. 18, 9 a.m.?1 p.m., focuses on the form of child abuse in which a caretaker induces or feigns sickness in a child, then presents the child for repeated psychological or medical care. Presenters: Teresa Parnell, PsyD, and Deborah Day, PsyD. ? 'Psychology and alternative medicine,' Aug. 17, 9 a.m.?5 p.m., introduces those in the psychology profession to the idea of combining psychological methods with alternative medicine such as acupuncture, Chinese medicine, homeopathy and other techniques. The workshop will explore the role psychologists play in alternative medicine. Presenter: Kathryn White, PhD. ? 'Clinical implications of Internet use,' Aug. 17, 9 a.m.?5 p.m., focuses on ways practitioners can use the Internet in their work .
