Nominate your colleagues for these 2011 APA awards

It’s time to nominate your colleagues or yourself for an APA award recognizing excellence in psychology. Winners receive a $1,000 honorarium, the opportunity to present at APA’s 2011 Annual Convention, Aug. 4–7 in Washington, D.C., a convention registration fee waiver, and reimbursement of up to $1,500 for convention-related travel expenses. Nominations for all awards are due by June 1. Some awards have additional information available on the Web at the specified addresses. Practice Awards:

  • APA Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Applied Research.

  • APA Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Independent Practice.

  • APA Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Institutional Practice.

  • APA/APAGS Award for Distinguished Graduate Student in Professional Psychology.

Education and Training Awards:

• Award for Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training.

• Award for Distinguished Contributions of Applications of Psychology to Education and Training.

Nominations should include a letter outlining the nominee’s contributions to psychology, two letters of support and a curriculum vitae. Public Interest Awards:

• APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology in the Public Interest (Senior Career).

• APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology in the Public Interest (Early Career).

• APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research in Public Policy.

Nomination letters must clearly explain in 500 words or less the basis for the nomination, including a description of how and why the candidate is uniquely qualified to receive the award. The letter must be accompanied by a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae and three letters of support. Nominees may also submit three to five selected reprints. Send nomination materials to G. International Awards:

• Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology.

• International Humanitarian Award.

Nominees for these award must be psychologists, but they are not required to be APA members. Nominations should include a supporting statement of up to 500 words that traces the nominee’s record of enduring contributions to the international advancement of psychology, a curriculum vitae, a list of relevant publications and letters of support from three to five people familiar with the nominee’s work.
