Description

This INTRODUCTORY/INTERMEDIATE workshop was part of Dr. Carol Goodheart’s Presidential Programming.  The workshop presents a framework for addressing the growing demand for practitioners to demonstrate the quality and the cost effectiveness of the care they provide. The workshop will describe criteria for selecting outcome-measurement approaches that reflect psychotherapy processes; how these approaches can be used to optimize client outcomes; and, how outcome efforts assist in establishing "practice-based" evidence of providing quality care. The approaches taken by governmental and health plans and the impact for practitioners will be addressed.

Part of the APA Online Academy Convention Workshop Presentations Campus.

Learning Objectives
  • Describe criteria on which to consider the appropriate selection of outcome measures that are relevant to the care that is provided and will be informative to clinicians in optimizing of psychotherapy care outcomes.

  • Implement an outcome measurement effort that is concurrent with treatment and can be used to establish credible and rigorous "practice-based" evidence.

  • Identify relevant constructs to be included in psychotherapy outcome measurement efforts that reflect the empirical relationship between psychotherapy process and performance outcome.

  • Critique and identify the benefits and shortcoming of outcome measurement approaches that are currently used by payers (federal government and commercial health plans).
