This session is designed to help psychologists understand more clearly, and treat more effectively, clients with perfectionism.  The session includes a review of selected recent perfectionism research.  The session will also include a review of relationship between perfectionism, stress, coping, and a variety of outcomes.

Learning Objectives
  • Recognize the various definitions of perfectionism.

  • Distinguish between the various dimensions of perfectionism.

  • Comprehend the argument theory that there may be “positive” or adaptive forms of perfectionism, in addition to negative or maladaptive forms.

  • Identify the relationship between perfectionism, stress, coping, and psychological outcomes
