Of these, 267 applications were approved and 88 were new applicants. As of December 2012, approximately 795 organizations were listed as APA-approved sponsors of continuing education for psychologists.
The committee had a full-day policy retreat at both its June 2012 and November 2012 meetings. The retreats focused on review of the:

- Approval of Sponsors of Continuing Education for Psychologists Application.

In an effort to promote outreach the committee offered “Advancing Best Practices in Continuing Education,” a program designed for APA-approved sponsors was offered at APA Annual Convention on Aug. 2, 2012. The committee will offer a program at the 2013 convention focusing on educational assessment. They also drafted the “Quality Professional Development and Continuing Education Resolution” to be put out for public comment in 2013, revised the “American Psychological Association Approval of Sponsors of Continuing Education for Psychologists Policies and Procedures Manual,” approved by Council in Aug. 2012, and created the new BEA CE award in recognition of outstanding contributions to CE and professional development in psychology.
The committee maintains two subcommittees:
- Welcome and Training Subcommittee — to focus on training new CEC members.
- Sponsor Outreach Subcommittee — works with staff to disseminate information via tips, website, and FAQs.
Meeting Attendance: The Continuing Education Committee chair and the Advisory Group chair attended the Education Leadership Conference held Sept. 2012 in Washington, D.C. The CEC chair in conjunction with the director of the Office of Continuing Education offered a break-out session titled, “Promoting Quality in Continuing Education and Professional Development.”
Continuing Education in Psychology Activities at the 2012 APA Convention
The Continuing Education Committee reviewed 134 workshop proposals and, of these, 69 workshops (including six preconvention workshops) were presented at the 2012 convention in Orlando, Fla. A total of 699 individuals enrolled in one or more CE workshops. Evaluation data from workshop participants continue to reflect a high level of satisfaction with the quality of value of these programs.
A total of 268 general convention sessions were offered for CE credit at the 2012 Annual Convention. As in 2011, participants were able to purchase “unlimited CE credit” at a single fee in advance, on-site, or post-convention. Additionally, the radio-frequency Identification (RFID) tags (which replaced the “swipe in- swipe out” in 2011) were used again as the CE attendance verification system. Positive responses to both these changes were received and contributed to another successful year in relation to CE sessions. Approximately 1,250 individuals received CE credit for their attendance at one or more CE sessions. It is anticipated that 200 CE sessions will offered at the 2013 convention.
