NIH “Rock Talk” provides good information on grant success rates and more

Scientists interested in NIH funding should check out the blog of NIH Deputy Director of Extramural Research, Dr. Sally Rockey
Scientists interested in NIH funding should check out the blog of NIH Deputy Director of Extramural Research, Dr. Sally Rockey. In the current edition she shares data and the story behind 2011 success rates in NIH’s Research Project Grants. Rockey breaks down the contributing factors, discussing the impact of NIH’s budget decrease of one percent, an increase in R21 (small grant) applications of 17 percent, an increase in the number of R01 applications, and an increase in the average cost of R01s. Rockey is making the rounds of NIH Advisory Council meetings talking about this data and other questions of grant management. Rockey is also on Twitter: @RockTalking.
