Public Interest Government Relations Office staff presents at Obesity Summit
On Oct. 22, 2012, PI-GRO staff presented a session at the Summit on Obesity in African American Women and Girls in Washington, D.C. The presentation, titled "Federal Obesity Policies: Highlights and Current Trends," provided an overview of federal policy trends to address the obesity epidemic, including examples of recent federal laws and legislative proposals.
PI-GRO staff also engaged with participants to inform the development of strategic goals to promote the development and implementation of effective public policies to combat obesity. The historic summit was convened by the Association of Black Psychologists and APA to determine how to most effectively address obesity and excess weight in African American girls and women.
