Psychology VA leaders meet with APA staff, Congress
On Feb. 29-March 1, 2012, APA hosted a 2-day meeting with officers of the Association of VA Psychologist Leaders (AVAPL). On the first day, the group met with APA staff from each of the four directorates and the Executive Office to discuss issues of mutual interest. On the second day, AVAPL officers and APA staff met with key bipartisan congressional offices and committees to discuss some of the most pressing needs of VA psychologists that affect the care of veterans, including issues related both to clinical care and research conducted within the VA system.
Additionally, representatives of APA’s Practice and Public Interest Directorates and 2012 APA President Suzanne Bennett Johnson, PhD, attended the recent Annual VA Psychology Leadership Conference and shared an update on the range of APA’s activities on veterans’ issues.
